The problem
A compliance-driven onboarding flow had accreted requirements over five years and nobody owned the whole journey.
What I did
- Mapped the end-to-end journey with compliance, ops and engineering in one room.
- Separated genuine regulatory requirements from inherited habit.
- Sequenced the rebuild so the riskiest step shipped first behind a flag.
Outcome
Drop-off roughly halved, with no increase in remediation cases flagged by the compliance team.
What I'd do differently
I would have written the target-state journey down before the workshop, not after.
